The côteaux de Verdon is a visually stunning and historically rich region of France only 70 miles north of the holiday hot-spot of Saint Tropez. The vineyards are situated up in the mountains, not far from the magnificent gorges that the region is famous for. These unique growing conditions mean that the grapes benefit from a slightly warmer climate but are also enriched by the longer, cooler night-time hours. It is these cooler nighttime hours that give the wine its ultimate finesse.
In 1989 Maison Louis Latour diversified its Burgundian vinification practices and pioneered the production of the Pinot Noir grape in the Verdon by buying 30 ha (75 acres) of land. The current Monsieur Louis Latour sought to revive the historical wine-making practices that were the original Pinot Noir style two hundred years ago. The « Domaine de Valmoissine » is therefore a wine which is both a testament to Burgundian tradition and a novelty. Maison Louis Latour has proved with its 200 years of "savoir-faire" and with rigorous site selection that the fickle Pinot Noir can be successfully produced outside its native Burgund .The wine comprises an elegance and finesse that is unrivalled in this part of France.
