- The Grand Cru vineyard of Bâtard-Montrachet lies between the picturesque villages of PulignyMontrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, home to the world's greatest white wines. Only a narrow strip of land separates this 11.86 hectare vineyard from the great Montrachet itself. Its gentle easterly-facing slope is made up of a deep, rich, gravelly soil which has a limestone base, world renowned for the production of high-quality Chardonnay. Located just below the Montrachet, "Clos Poirier" is a single plot of 0.85 hectares, easily recognisable as it has the only north-south facing vines in this specific vineyard site. The surface area of the appellation worked by Louis Latour is 0.43 hectares located in the eastern part.
- Tasting NoteOf a gold nuances color, our Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru « Clos Poirier » 2019 unveils an intense nose with yellow peach, almond paste and honey aromas. The mouth is ample and round with fresh almond, vanilla and brioche notes. This wine offers a beautiful tension as well as a slightly salty finish. Nice aromatic persistence.

The nose reveals spice and toast, yellow fruit and curry. The palate is rich and unctuous, with flavours of pears. It assumes its natural opulence, warm and generous. We liked its persistence showing hints of spice and aniseed.

A rich and powerful 2019 white Burgundy. Very smoky nose with notes of freshly mown hay, candied lemon and lemon curd. Bold and ripe with plenty of textural complexity, pronounced preserved-lemon character and chalky minerality. Interesting nutty and hibiscus notes at the finish.

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Clos Poirier Grand Cru is turning out nicely, exhibiting aromas of pear, toasted nuts, orange oil and popcorn, followed by a full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated palate. Though the vines here are still young, this appears to be a fine effort in the making. (William Kelley)
