- This is a superb vineyard situated above Clos Vougeot, between Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits. It belongs to the era of the Cîteaux Abbey. Echézeaux offers quite diverse and complex soils depending on each climate, all with an easterly exposure. Echézeaux is an exquisite red wine that is robust, solid, and completely harmonious. It is always a great wine to age.
- FermentationTraditional in open vats
- Ageing10 to 12 months ageing in oak barrels, 100% new
- BarrelsLouis Latour cooperage, French oak, medium toasted
- Tasting NoteThe Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 has a dark ruby colour. It reveals a nose with moka, coffee and amaretto hints. In the mouth it is round and full, with tastes of red crunchy fruits, undergrowth after a summer storm and grilled notes. Tannins are present and mellow. This wine is frank, very elegant with a wonderful persistance.
- Food PairingRoasted lamb - rib-eye steak - game - mature cheeses.

- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2021 - Burghound.com - April 2023 - 90/100
A more deeply pitched and markedly spicier nose features notes of black cherry, essence of plum, violet and lilac hints. There is better mid-palate volume and richness to the medium-bodied flavors that deliver better depth and persistence on the moderately austere and firmer finale.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2022 - Wine Spectator - 97/100
There's fine tension between elegance and power in this somewhat expressive yet firmly structured red. Black cherry, black currant, violet and mineral notes are the core elements, with bracing acidity and a long, complex aertaste. Shows superb balance and sophistication. Best from 2028 through 2050. (Bruce Sanderson, USA, September 2024)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2022 - James Suckling - 98/100
Fabulous bouquet that's a wide tapestry of spicy, savory and earthy aromas. Rich and very dense, yet super-precise and energetic, this great masterpiece makes it clear that Echezeaux is not a minor grand cru by any stretch of the imagination. Super-long, very structured yet polished finish. Drink or hold. (Stuart Pigott, June 2024)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2022 - Burghound.com - 92/100
This is quite ripe though not jammy with its attractively spicy exotic tea-infused aromas of black cherry compote, poached plum and kirsch. The seductively textured and more concentrated flavors possess both good size and weight along with focused power that seems to build on the youthfully austere, firm and lingering finish that could also use better depth. (Issue 94, April 2024, USA)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2020 - James Suckling - 98/100
The amazing amarena-cherry nose pulls you into this giant of a Burgundy Grand Cru, but the best thing about this masterpiece is the fabulous freshness that drives it over the palate with the force of nature. So much energy at the brilliant-mineral finish. Drink or hold.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2020 - Burghound.com - 90/100 pts
Once again, moderately generous if not actually invasive wood sets off ripe and markedly spicy aromas of black cherry, raspberry and subtle if pretty floral elements. The supple, rich and caressing medium weight flavors are utterly delicious before terminating in a firm if slightly drying and short finale. This had just been bottled and I suspect that the recent sulfur addition is likely responsible for the dryness and attenuated finish; as such, my rating offers the benefit of the doubt.
- Echézeaux 2020 - Wine Enthusiast - 94/100
Powerful and deeply concentrated, the wine is firm with aromas of plum, black cherry, blackberry, liquor de cassis, brown button mushroom, and stemmy with fresh thyme. A velvety palate with stewed red and dark fruit coats the palate and good acidity powers through the youthful texture. Best after 2025. (USA, December 2023)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2020 - Wine Spectator Insider - August 2022 - 96/1000
Silky and intense, featuring black cherry, blackberry, violet, graphite and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Despite the firm, suave structure, this is all about finesse and detail. Very harmonious at this stage, and persists with a long aftertaste of pure fruit, mineral and spice. Best from 2025 through 2043. -B.S.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2019 - 91 pts - Burghound April 2021
"aromas of wood and menthol set off ripe aromas of poached plum, violet, kirsch and plenty of spice elements. The sleek, intense and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess good if not special mid-palate concentration while delivering fine length on the somewhat raspy finish." 2031+
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2019 - The Wine Advocate - 90/92 pts
"The 2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru is quite promising, offering up aromas of minty berry fruit, burning embers, warm spices and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with ripe tannins and a lusty, oak-inflected finish, it's quite marked by its élevage but typically tends to come around by the time it's bottled."
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2018 - 93 pts - Wine Spectator May 2021
Though well-marked by refined tannins, this red offers red cherry, black currant and toasty oak flavors. Hints of iron and earth peek through, before ending with a dose of oak spice. There is nice purity here, if a bit reticent for now. Best from 2024 through 2042. — BS
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2018 - Burghound.com, Allen Meadows - Spring 2020 - 91/100
A ripe yet reasonably fresh combination melds notes of various spice and floral elements with those of red and black pinot fruit that exudes a hint of exotic spice. The notably pliant, round and nicely detailed flavors possess very fine length on the saline-inflected finish. This needs to develop better depth but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur over time. 2030+

- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2017 - William Kelley, Wine Advocate (USA) - February 2020 - 92/100
Mingling aromas of raspberries and cassis with hints of grilled squab and toasty new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fleshy, built around powdery tannins and concluding with good length on the finish.
- 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru - February 2020 - Wine Spectator Insider - 94/100
A taut, densely woven style, this features black cherry, blackberry, earth and iron flavors, framed by toasty, spicy oak. Muscular but corralled by vivid acidity and mouthcoating tannins.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2017 - Jancis Robinson - January 2019 - 17/20
Dark crimson. Concentrated, appetising fruit on the nose. Lots of juice and charm, with a few (not unpleasant) raw edges at the moment but real drive and energy. Drink: 2024 - 2032 (cask sample)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2017 - Burgundy Report, Bill Nanson (UK) - January 2019 - "Such tasty wine!"
A lovely depth and complexity of aroma. Round, deep, mobile - a bit of gas - but really a very fine intensity, lots of salinity, complex, long. Such tasty wine!
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 - Wine Spectator - USA - February 2019 - 93/100There is purity and elegance in this red, whose cherry, rhubarb, currant and
spice flavors converge on the refined structure. Firms up as the finish reveals
mineral details and more spice notes. Best from 2023 through 2040.—B.S. - Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 - Wine Spectator - May 2018 - 95/100
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 - Burghound.com - April 2018 - 93/100
Excellent concentration and plenty of dry extract present on the medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 - Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris - January 2018 - 94/100
Good bright middling purple. Some elegance to the nose, quite a lot of oak, then some depth of quality. Middleweight, lacks the racy lacy detail of the very best examples, but potentially a good wine. (Tasted prior to bottling)
- Echézeaux 2015 - Wine Enthusiast - November 2017 - 95/100
From the largest Grand Cru in Vosne-Romanée, this wine has plenty of the structure as well as the fruit that shines in this vintage. It is rich and smoky with black fruits and red-berry flavors. (USA)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2015 - Wine Spectator - October 2017 - 93/100
This is tightly wound and linear in profile, with concentrated flavors of black cherry, violet, earth and tar, held together by bright acidity and chalky tannins. (USA)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2015 - Burghound.com - April 2017 - 93/100
There is both good freshness and vibrancy to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a contrasting mouth feel in that it's at once seductive yet robust while offering sneaky good length on the palate coating and youthfully austere finish. 2027+ Allen Meadows (USA)

- Echezeaux Grand Cru - Wine Spectator - Web Only 2016 - 92/100
Oak lends accents of chocolate and spice to black cherry and earth notes in this powerful red, which is on the rustic side, with juicy acidity and fine length. Best from 2019 through 2032. By Bruce Sanderson (USA)
- Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 - Robert Parker - September 2016 - 91/100
The 2014 Echezeaux Grand Cru has a respectable clean and fresh bouquet with Morello cherry, raspberry coulis and touches of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied (...). There is a sense of energy here with just the right amount of spice towards the finish. One of the better offerings this vintage from Louis Latour, enjoy this over the next decade. Drink: 2017 - 2028 (USA)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2014 - Wine Enthusiast- October 2016 - 92/100
This is a ripe and fruity wine. Soft, generous tannins are embedded in the developing red-fruit flavors. With spice, hints of the wood aging and a rich texture, the wine will develop relatively quickly. Drink from 2020.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2014 - Burghound.com - April 2016 - 93/100
Here the wood treatment is more prominent and includes menthol nuances that don't really interfere with the clear expression of the overtly spicy dark currant and Asian-tea suffused aromas. There is fine vibrancy to the dusty and mouth coating medium weight flavors that possess good depth on the balanced if surprisingly rustic and borderline chewy finish. This doesn't lack for underlying material but it's not an Ech of refinement. /2026+

- Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 - Burgundy Report - January 2016 - "A super wine"
A hint of oak, but more than a hint of spice and flowers. I find really super and inviting depth here. (...) A fresh floral top note to the fruit flavour. A growing complexity that blossoms in the finish. Bravo! A super wine. Actually 100% new oak... (cask sample) By Bill Nanson (UK)
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2011 - Wine Spectator - June 2014 - 93/100Cherry and raspberry flavors are locked in the grip of stern tannins in this beefy red. - Echézeaux Grand Cru 2013 - Wine Spectator - May 2016 - 92/100
This is bright, saturated with cherry flavors. The tightly knit texture provides support. Vanilla, toast and tobacco elements add interest and linger on the chalky finish. Best from 2019 through 2032.
- Echezeaux Grand Cru 2013 - James Suckling - June 2015 - 93/100Very

crisp and delicate. A very pretty and floaty. Yes.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2013 - Burghound.com - Avril 2015 - 92/100Spicy and fresh red currant, raspberry and plum aromas. The spice character follows onto the lush and attractively textured middle weight flavors that coat the palate on the long and balanced finale.
This is firmly structured though not hard and should reward 10+ years of cellaring. - Echézeaux Grand Cru 2013 - Tim Atkin - January 2015 - 93/100 (UK)

2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very pure bouquet with macerated small red
cherries, kirsch, hints of vanilla and wild heather. It has the panache that
you seek from this vineyard and the oak is nicely integrated. The palate is
medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity and fine balance. This is
a stylish Echézeaux that feels long and tender on the finish, with fine tension
and precision.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2012 - Wine Spectator - Juin 2015 - 91/100This pretty style features a silky
texture that falls into step with the strawberry and raspberry notes. Floral
and mineral flavors add depth, remaining balanced and firm on the lingering
finish. Best from 2018 through 2023.
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2012 - Burgundy Report - June 2014 - "Very, very impressive"From 5 different lieu-dits within the Grand Cru. The nose is understated yet confident, wide and concentrated. The palate is likewise concentrated, with decently fine tannin that has just a little drag across the tongue. From a narrow start, the flavour reaches a very impressive crescendo in the finish. Very, very impressive. - Bill Nanson
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2012 - Burghound.com - April 2014 - 91/100A moderate amount of wood serves to highlight the spicy black currant and menthol-inflected nose. There is reasonably good verve and freshness to the ripe medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with structure-buffering dry extract on the lightly mineral-driven, balanced and complex finish. This is on the robust side for the appellation and this is true even though the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. By Allen Meadows (USA)

- Échézeaux Grand Cru 2011 - Allen Meadows - Burghound.com - May 2013 - 92/100(a blend of different climats). An overtly spicy mélange of ripe plum, soft earth and sandalwood nuances gives way to beguilingly fresh and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess really lovely delineation on the mouth coating, intense and lingering finish. Perhaps what sets this apart is just how good the complexity is and if more develops in bottle this could easily surprise to the upside. Good stuff. 2023+
- Echézeaux Grand Cru 2010 - Burghound.com - April 2012 - 92/100There is good detail to the admirably rich, round and quite firm medium-bodied flavors that possess impressive persistence on the mouth coating finish.
